Amanda Hughley, President

(she/her)

Amanda is a writer, wife, and mother. She hosts her own blog and YouTube channel, which aim to encourage and support others, particularly Christian women, who live with chronic illnesses or chronic pain.

As a BIPOC, specifically Black and Caucasian, woman, Amanda has had many race-influenced and explicitly racist experiences. She has learned how to navigate in and out of both white and black spaces, allowing her to have a unique perspective of how race and culture impact our experiences. Amanda enjoys learning about various cultures through the study of history, particularly the history of emigration (or slavery) and assimilation.

Amanda has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from North Dakota State University, and a Master of Education degree in Community Counseling from DePaul University. She has worked with youth in various capacities with non-profit agencies around the city of Chicago. Currently, she cherishes raising her sons as a stay-at-home mother and blogger. Amanda lives in Brookfield, IL with the loves of her life - husband, Jonathan, and sons, Elijah and Micah.

Diana Dimas, Secretary

Diana is a mother, wife, fitness instructor, adjunct professor and personal trainer.  She currently works part time at a non profit medical fitness facility in Chicago where she enjoys working with her clients to create healthier lifestyles, improving strength and mobilityAs a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist she also works with the Integrative Cancer Care Program, creating safe and effective exercise programming for improving health and vitality for cancer survivors.

As a native Chicagoan, she was raised in a predominantly caucasion neighborhood where racial undertones were ever present.  As a daughter of immigrants her life experiences increased her desire not only for equality but also for improving cross cultural experiences and knowledge.

Diana has a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, and a Master of Education from North Park University.  She is bilingual in Spanish and hopes to raise her daughter the same.  Beyond work Diana enjoys being active outdoors, bike riding and kayaking, and traveling with her daughter and husband.  She tries to  make it to Mexico once a year to visit her extended family.


Kue Her

Kue Her was born in Fresno, California and is the son of a church-planting pastor.  As a result, he grew up in many different places and was exposed to many different cultural backgrounds.  While being exposed to the many cultural backgrounds across the states it has led him to lean in and embrace the beauty of what culture does to enrich the lives of a person. 

He looks to empower his Hmong community and people to use their voices and speak up about their experiences. He recently started a podcast called "The Bamboo Ceiling" where they discuss stereotypes, taboos, and life in the Asian community.    

Kue has a Bachelor's Degree in Leadership and Ministry from Ohio Christian University. He has been involved in mentoring youth in the Twin Cities for over 10 years. He is currently serving as a Program Manager with Treehouse Youth Outreach. His favorite moments in life are spent with family and relatives relaxing over a feast at a get-together. He always looks to engage in his Hmong community by attending cultural events that enriches the values he grew up in.

Anu Philips, Interim Treasurer

Anu grew up in the suburbs outside of Detroit, and completed her undergraduate degree at Michigan State University (Go green!) She and her husband lived in New York City for 10 years where they started a family, fell in love with the city and are so grateful for the forever change NYC has had on their perspective! While there she completed her masters degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education at Teachers College, Columbia University.  

Anu was a mentor for a not for profit, iMentor, in New York City, and served as a board member for Sound Business Inc; a grassroots, cohort-based high school program assisting kids in Harlem gain access to higher education. Her passion for education, equity, and race relations has influenced her career,  personal relationships, and the way she is raising her children. Anu’s personal experiences as a daughter of Indian immigrant parents, has also influenced her desire to have intentional conversations on racism and various aspects of privilege (racial, economic, social, cultural), in order to help unite people across cultures.

Anu works full time as an Executive Director for a New York based company and resides in the Detroit area.  She enjoys spending time with her two children, friends & family. She is an avid reader and is looking forward to reading more as the kids get older!.  Anu loves traveling and experiencing new cultures, her favorite places to date are, Israel and Costa Rica.
